Centre for Peacebuilding & Transformation
Our Approaches

How we listen. How we
learn. How we act.
Our work is guided by three pillars: Connecting – building trusted relationships and fostering partnerships that bridge people, cultures, communities and systems; Building – co-creating solutions, growing capability, developing innovative strategies through leadership, governance, systemic capacity and strategy for transformation; Transforming – supporting bold, courageous dialogue and action to disrupt inequality, heal harm and transform systems.

Community members aren’t
subjects of our research —
they are coinvestigators,
knowledgeholders and co-architects
of solutions.
Our practice is trauma-aware, culturally grounded, healing-centred and evidence-based. We integrate First Nations knowledge traditions with contemporary research frameworks – bringing the same rigour to a family dialogue as to a Parliament-tabled report. We don’t impose. We walk alongside – curious, grounded and bringing relational depth and methodological care to everything we do.

How We Work
Every engagement begins with a conversation, not a proposal.
Each engagement begins with a conversation – and continues only when genuine trust has been established. We never arrive with a pre-packaged program. Every service we deliver is co-designed with the people it is meant to serve, shaped by local knowledge and cultural context, and guided by what is actually needed rather than what is easiest to provide.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
We begin with a conversation. We enter with curiosity, humility and a willingness to listen deeply as we seek to understand your unique context, needs, challenges and aspirations. We want to understand what matters most to you so that we can craft a tailored approach that resonates with your vision and aspirations.
Step 2: Context & Community Mapping
We conduct a thorough collaborative needs assessment to identify where our contribution can bring the most value, meaning and resonance. We invest time understanding local knowledge, history, relational dynamics and cultural context before we begin. This shapes everything that follows.
Step 3: Co-Design
We design the engagement with – not for – the people it will serve. Community members are co-designers, not recipients of a pre-built program. We co-design bespoke strategies and approaches that directly address your distinctive requirements – across peacebuilding, healing, policy reform, cultural facilitation and beyond. Our solutions are responsive, context-specific and strengths-based. Where the engagement involves training or capability building, co-design extends to the full learning architecture – not just the content, but the conditions needed for that content to be genuinely embedded in practice and culture over time.
Step 4: Delivery & Facilitation
We walk side by side, ensuring shared ownership and momentum for change. Whether facilitating a circle, running a workshop or writing a report – we show up with full presence, methodological rigour and relational care.
Step 5: Measuring Impact
Together, we define success, track change and use feedback to evolve the work. We hold space for honest review during and after each engagement – with participants, with stakeholders and with ourselves. Learning is continuous and built into the process.
Step 6: Reporting and Accountability
We uphold transparency and accountability through open, honest communication and regular reporting. This ensures progress is visible, adaptable, shared and celebrated. Where a written output is required, we produce findings that are evidence-based, honestly stated and practically usable – not reports that gather dust on a shelf.
Step 7: Ongoing Support
Our commitment continues long after the first phase, ensuring enduring, positive outcomes. We stay accountable for what we set in motion. Our relationships with clients and communities don’t end at contract completion – we plant seeds and care about what grows. For training and capability engagements, this means post-program embedding support – follow-up sessions, coaching and practice communities that ensure new skills move from the workshop into the way the organisation actually works.
How We Show Up – The Principles Behind the Process

Co-Creation and Emergent Design
Every engagement is shaped with, not for. We start where you are and move forward together, tailoring each process to the distinct context, needs and aspirations you bring.

Relational Practice
We honour trust, safety and shared humanity as the foundation for meaningful change. Relationships are not a precondition for the work — they are the work.

Trauma-Responsive and Culturally Responsive Practice
We centre cultural safety, emotional wellbeing and lived and living experiences at every stage. Our practice honours the complexity of each person’s story and the context in which they carry it.

Systems Thinking
We look beyond symptoms to address root causes, weaving connections across people, places, policies and power. Change that lasts requires understanding the whole system, not just the presenting problem.

Strengths-Based and Healing-Centred
We focus on what’s strong, not what’s wrong — enabling possibility, resilience and restoration. We hold space for healing that honours the past while cultivating futures worth hoping for.
